Will Kavanaugh be Appointed to the Supreme Court?

I initially wanted to talk about this topic because it is one of the most popular stories in the media. His nomination has been scandal plagued, and I thought that it would be interesting to compare his google trends with key issues surrounding his appointment. The process of Judge Kavanaugh being appointed to the Supreme Court began on June 27, when Justice Anthony M. Kennedy announced that he would be retiring this upcoming summer. President Trump leaped on this chance to appoint a second conservative judge to the Supreme Court in only the second year of his presidency. Trump evaluated a number of options but eventually nominated Kavanaugh on July 9th. Kavanaugh initially faced widespread Democrat resistance because of his differing views on topics such as gun control and abortion, but the news focus later shifted to sexual assault allegations during his years in high school and college

On September Second, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford came forward and said that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her at a house party when she was about 15. Interest went up surrounding the Supreme Court Nomination with the first major scandal emerging.

Soon after this first allegation, a second accuser came forward. Deborah Ramirez alleged that Kavanaugh flashed her at a college party during their Freshman year at Yale.

With numerous sexual assault allegations taking place, interest began picking up on whether Kavanaugh will be appointed to the Supreme Court even with all of these scandals. Senator Susan Collins from Maine is one of the swing votes that could make or break his nomination to the Supreme Court. There is much concern around whether Collins will vote to appoint Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
